Artist’s Statement:
Denis is greatly inspired by the coastal landscapes of Haida Gwaii. Denis’ paintings are created from his observations of the Pacific Ocean, where he forms a vision of his painting on an imaginary canvas.
From a young age Denis rowed the waters, hiked the hills, and walked the beaches of Haida Gwaii. He formed a strong appreciation for the ever changing coastal landscapes. In his mid thirties he developed the passion for painting to fill both his need for the creative, and for a desire to share and preserve the coastal landscapes of Haida Gwaii.
Guided solely by his artistic vision, Denis creates paintings that have a feeling of joy and great artistic freedom. Denis has studied art through night classes on water colour and drawing taught by professional artists, along with thousands of hours of practice.
