Selections of rarely seen footage documenting the Hudson Bay Company’s activities and
First Nations communities in the Canadian north in the early 20th century,
including Fort Chipewyan. Two filmmakers spent six months travelling by icebreaker,
canoe, horse drawn sleigh and dog sled in
1919 to shoot a feature film in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Hudson’s Bay Company.
Shortly after it’s creation the film disappeared from public view; the canisters of nitrate film stock
were packed away by the HBC in an archive in London for safe-keeping – but lost to the
world… until now. This archival screening includes excerpts from the newly restored nitrate
footage of The Romance of the Far Fur Country.
